Homotoxicology is seen as a "bridge" between allopathic medicine and homeopathic medicine.

Homotoxicology has an underlying concept that all manifestations of life depend on the conversion of chemical compounds. They view every organism as a flowing system of elements which continuously attempts to maintain a state of homeostasis. This balance is disturbed by the effects of toxic substances. When the organism mounts a defense against such toxins the resulting "battle" manifests as symptoms or disease. The bottom line for homotoxicology is that diseases are an expression of the defensive effort of the organism against toxins, and its attempt to counteract and expel them. In this defensive struggle, the organism may win or lose each battle, however symptoms are an inevitable manifestation.

Homotoxicology uses a variety of homeopathic remedies, sarcodes, nosodes and other preparations to activate the bodies defensive and regulatory processes and help the disrupted functions return to homeostasis. Dr. Reckeweg coined the term homotoxins (human poisons) which we are exposed to when the body encounters harmful substances and attempts to expel or neutralize them. His observations were that first the body tries to eliminate the toxins by excretion, for example diarrhea or rhinitis. If the excretion is insufficient, a reaction ensues, such as a fever which would be the body's attempt to burn off or neutralize the toxins.

If the homotoxins continue to flow into the body, it attempts to store or isolate them in different compartments under the form of cellulitis or benign tumors. Unchecked this may lead to cellular impregnation with the penetration of toxins into key organs such as the heart or brain. This can lead to organ degeneration with metaplasia and finally the creation of a neoplasm. Once the disease reaches the neoplastic stage, death of the organism is not far behind.

Homeopathy is based on three basic principals:

The law of similars A substance administrated in strong doses to a healthy person will provoke particular symptoms, whereas this same substance potentized and taken in infinitesimal dosages can eliminate the same symptoms in an inflicted individual.

The law of infinitesimality Homeopathic medicines are derived from plant, animal, mineral, or chemical substances which are macerated in order to obtain the mother tincture (full strength); from this, a drop is then diluted and potentized. This process of dynamization, as it is termed, will be repeated until the desired infinitesimal dilution is obtained.

The law of individualization The homeopath considers each individual to be a unique person having his/her own psychic and physical symptoms as well as his/her own hereditary predispositions. With respect to an illness, each individual reacts in very different ways.

Homeopathy treats the person and not his/her illness.

HISTORY Hippocrates was the first to establish the similarity principal but unfortunately, his theory was quickly forgotten.

In 1790, Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, discovered homeopathy by translating a materia medica. He observed that the substance China (Peruvian bark), containing quinine, administered in high dosage to a healthy individual, provoked an intermittent fever, and that this same remedy, taken in infinitesimal dosages, cured this symptom in an individual inflicted with this same type of fever. He demonstrated this principle on himself and his colleagues, and repeated experiments with other substances. The results were always very conclusive.

In 1796, he published his theories and experiments based on the "vital force", the capacity of the individual's reaction in response to illness, as well as the law of similars.

Towards the end of the 19th century, Dr. Heinrich Reckeweg founded the Laboratorium Eupha where he developed and used the first homeopathic medications formulated according to Hahnemann's similarity principle.

In 1947, his sons K. Günther and Alfred Reckeweg founded Dr. Reckeweg & Co. Since that time, they have accommodated to the needs of the population. DOSAGE

Children: Young children and infants, normally 2 to 5 drops; older children, 5 to 8 drops.

Adults: Follow the instructions as indicated on the label or as recommended by your practitioner.

Generally, the dosage is 10 to 15 drops ( liquids: 1 teaspoon).

Frequency: For acute cases, the remedy should be taken every ¼ hour, ½ hour, every hour or 2 hours, according to the severity of the symptoms, or under advice of a health care practitioner. For chronic cases, 3 to 6 times a day.

All remedies should be taken 20 minutes or more before a meal or 1 ½ hour after a meal.

PRECAUTIONS In order to maximize the success of the treatment, avoid the consumption of coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco, and mint (toothpaste, chewing gum, cough drops, etc.) during your treatment. Also avoid inhaling strong substances such as chemical products and strong detergents.

For people suffering from alcoholism, allow the alcohol to evaporate from the homeopathic remedy by placing the daily dosage in a glass with lukewarm water and administer it tablespoon by tablespoon, over the course of the day. Globules or tablets may also be administered alternatively.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS . For infants who are breast fed, the mother may consume the remedy herself.

Homeopathic remedies may also be administered with a plastic dropper or diluted in the baby's bottle.

It is possible to take more than one homeopathic remedy at the same time. It is preferable to wait a few minutes between each remedy, or as recommended by your practitioner.

With few exceptions, there are no adverse effects in taking both allopathic and homeopathic remedies together.
